Anyone who wants to try debating the issue of the propsed 'surge' of troops in Iraq should head over to Larvatus Prodeo: today has their third post in the last half a week about it.

It's pretty hard to make headway because the liberal-left groupthink machine is turned on pretty high over there (Howard = 'The Rodent', etc) , but they are specifically asking:

what exactly would constitute “victory” in Iraq.

which is a good question to try to answer  in public.

My attempt at answering it at Larvatus Prodeo is here, at a post from a few days ago.

Interesting thread. Glad to see you are actively debating where people are (understandably) unaware that there is any left supporting the Iraq war. Half way through it, I was struck by this comment in response to your link to a lastsuperpower thread on Palestine:

All I get when I hit that link is a catalogue of atrocities continuing from both sides, David. Probably somewhere on that bulletin board is the bit you’re talking about, but I cant be bothered looking for it as the contention that Bush wants to usher in some amazing peace deal is absurd - he’s had six years, and all we’ve had is rhetoric and support for the Israeli government all the way.

I've encountered the same problem that there is no where to link to from which people can find their way around what we have to say about anything in particular unless they are VERY interested. This is inherent in running a site totally focussed on a discussion forum that is inherently ephemeral instead of a navigable structure of organized contributions (which people discuss in the forum).

I have not been able to do anything about this for more than 2 years due to inability to communicate about it with keza (and unfamiliarity with the technology and lack of time from others). So am still just posting here occasionally as an "outsider". Am posting more regularly at tpmcafe  where there is a larger audience and more stimulating responses (though still overwhelmingly dispiriting).

BTW the same issues about "what would victory look like" and "how" that are coming up in your thread keep coming up there too.
