The
Gapminder website presents a lot of statistics about world development in flash animation form.
It describes its vision as "making sense of the world by having fun with statistics".
I had a look at one of the animations which was about the falling rate of infant mortality and populatiuon growth. It was rather "school marmish" in style but quite well done otherwise.

There seem to be a lot more animations on the site, all based on the 2005 UN Human Development Report. (I haven't looked at them yet.)
We need to get our heads around this sort of data and think about what it means if we want to develop any sort of program of our own (rather than sit on the side lines and watch the world (slowly) get better.)
How long till the whole world crosses the line between "developed" and "undeveloped"?
Will things continue to stagnate (politically) in the developed world until the rest of the planet catches up?
Is there going to be another "leap" in the developed world due to exponential technological change and increases in scientific understanding? Or will there just be quantitative change which doesn't really shake things up?
